EARTH DAY-EARN RICE FOR WORLD HUNGER

 
Please Join the Fessenden-Bowdon Library Students.  Play educational games at FreeRice.com to earn 10 grains of rice for every correct answer.  Sponsors donate the rice to world hunger programs.  Thousands of people around the globe play and earn over 20 million grains of rice every day!!

National Library Week-April 12-18

DID YOU KNOW?
The North Dakota State Library facilitates 34,000 interlibrary loans annually, offers numerous trainings free of charge, and awards $800,000 grants each year to public/school libraries across the state.
North Dakota has 93 public libraries with over 220 full-time staff who answer approximately 400,000 questions per year.  Attendance at public libraries total over 2 million per year.
North Dakota has 380 school libraries with 294 school librarians teaching students in North Dakota K-12 school libraries. 

To Celebrate National Library Week - Fessenden-Bowdon K-1 students will learn about the author Robert Munsch and read his stories online.  Watch for up-and-coming Library Podcasts from the 2-4 graders about the importance of libraries while 5th/6th graders tell about humor they found in library books in honor of National Humor Month (April).  (To hear the podcasts Click Library Podcast under Blogroll.)

F-B JUNIOR HIGH GET INTO DIGITAL NOVELS


Junior High students are novel reading online!  The school media center offers an online digital library for all ages.  These students are reading in the ‘Middle School’ online library.  Students have the option to read independently or to listen to the novel as they follow along on the pages.  Cool!

FIRST GRADE GEOCASHING


First Graders learn about the Garmin GPS devices by following clues and finding the waypoints to three destinations around the Fessenden-Bowdon School yard.  Locating the third waypoint also locates a student’s Birthday Geocache!  Happy Birthday to You!

F-B ELEMENTARY CELEBRATE READING MONTH


 Students focused their reading on bears, presidents, and ice cream during ND Reading Month.  February Reading Month kicked off with ‘Flashlight Reading with a Buddy’ and ended with ice cream floats.  A special event for the reading month was Tom Gibson’s conservation presentations-Sam Ting and Common Sense.


Kindergarteners love reading about Franklin the Turtle. 


First & Second Graders vote for Arthur as their favorite character!

The Fessenden-Bowdon Preschool Learns About the Library Resources

Preschool Goes Techy
Preschool Teacher, Erica Jones, the Assistant, Melissa Neumiller, and the morning/afternoon Preschoolers learn about the library resources.  Mrs. O, Library Media Specialist, demonstrated to the classes how to use the laptop and Promethean ActivBoard to access the Fessenden-Bowdon School website.  Students then click “Media Center”, then ”Explore & Learn” – from their they can choose interactive learning websites.  For example: Sesame Street, Little Amadeus Music, Clifford the Big Red Dog.  Students interact with the websites through the ActivBoard’s pen. 
Preschoolers also learned about accessing the children’s online digital library called “Tumble Books” which is found on the library homepage at the top.  Click link called “Tumble Books”-then click the red oval entitled ’storybooks’.  Stories are listed by their title alphabetically.  Stories offer quizzes, puzzles, and games to further language arts learning. 
Preschoolers then learned about the www.starfall.com website that teaches the alphabet and their sounds using interactive games. 
Preschoolers love coming to the digital library twice a month.  They are getting ”tech” smart!

Grandparent Program Workers Learn About Online Digital Libraries

Grandparent Program Workers, Grandma Gretchen & Grandma JoJo, learn how to use the Fessenden-Bowdon School Library’s Online Digital Libraries.  They are excited to read-along and/or just listen to the hundreds of novels available for their reading/listening pleasure.
