Need to be inspired?

February 2nd, 2009

I was lucky enough to attend the Florida Educational Technology Conference (FETC) in Orlando this month.  While the escape from the snow and ice was wonderful, the great resources I received at the conference were equally as wonderful!  Take a look at these websites for ideas in your classroom

Language Arts/History

www.xtimeline.com

This website lets you see timelines that are already made or allows your students to make their own, all for free!

Science

www.visiblebody.com

This site allows free access, after registration, to an interactive 3D human body…very cool!

Math

www.geogebra.org

This is a free program that can be downloaded on to your machine (Mac or PC) to do many things with Geometry and Algebra.

I hope these sites can inspire you to try something different in your classroom.  Feel free to leave comments on this blog about what sites you try and if you liked them or not.  Have Fun!

Personal Computers at school?

October 8th, 2008

I would like to extend a thank-you to those who attended my session on Technology Integration Planning at NDATL Fall F2F. We had an interesting conversation regarding the use of personal laptop computers at school. This lead us to a couple of questions that I left unanswered. I have found the answers and wanted to share with everyone because I feel it is an important issue that schools need to address.

If it is a personal computer, how do we know it is safe from viruses?
It is important for the teacher or technology personnel to check the computer for updated antivirus software. Ultimately, if the school allows personal computers onto the school network they are allowing anything on that machine access to the network. Is that something your district is willing to do? These are issues that need to be addressed.

Can the Symantic antivirus issued to the school from the state be used on personal computers that are used at school?
The Symantic antivirus that EduTech provides to schools is only to be installed on computers owned by the school districts. It is not to be used on personal computers.

I hope this answers the questions asked and if there are any additional questions please feel free to contact me.

Welcome Back!

September 22nd, 2008

I think everyone has had a couple of weeks to get back into routine in their schools and hopefully the school year has started off well. We have been getting into the swing of things as well and I am looking forward to meeting those of you in my region I haven’t had a chance to meet yet. Site visits for the Northwest Region will be scheduled soon, starting in the middle of October. I will also be attending the NDATL F2F meeting in Minot and hope to see some of you there. This fall we are featuring some great workshops.

Special Pricing for United Streaming

April 18th, 2008

Ed Leaders and Tecos,

Special pricing for Discovery Streaming (United Streaming) is finally available! The discounts are based on volume (the more buildings participating the greater the discount) and a June 15, 2008 deadline. It is important that you respond quickly if you would like to benefit from this discount.

Remember Discovery Streaming is sold by building, not district. Please read the information carefully on the document link below and respond as soon as possible if you wish to participate. The order form needs be faxed to the EduTech office by June 15, 2008. Discovery Streaming will bill your school after that date.

IMPORTANT- buildings with less than 200 students do not receive the volume discount as the low enrollment price is already significantly discounted.

I am available for questions as are the Discovery Reps listed on the bottom of the document linked below. If your current contract goes later than the June 15 date please contact a Discovery Rep.

Thank you!
