Welcome Back! 2009 Fall Workshops

Welcome back FB teachers and support staff!  The next two days will be fillled with “tools” for you to use as you create 21st Century classrooms…exciting, enriched and collaborative!  We will be learning about ActivInspire, the new software they will use to create the “interactive” flipcharts for the Promethan boards.  A professional educational trainer from Connecting Point in Bismarck with conduct the hands on workshop.

We will continue on Tuesday with a variety of activities that will give you more tools to use for todays learners. From Learn360, an online video source from PBS; Kidspiration and Inspiration, software that all students will use to create “visual organizers” for learning and planning; and finally we will look at creating “Flat Classrooms”.  The Flat Classroom concept was inspired from the book, The World Is Flat” which focuses on how our world has changed with the explosion of technology; there are no bounderies. The same is for our classrooms in Fessenden-Bowdon; the only bounderies we have are the ones we create ourselves.

Technology has changed the way we teach, learn, work and even do everyday tasks.  We will discuss how teachers can create “flat classrooms” and teach our students globally…not just locally… through the use of video conferencing, and other technology.  I am very excited for another year at the Fessenden-Bowdon School.  We are so fortunate to have such progressive teachers who care about our kids and their future!  Click on the link for the agenda and links to sites.  2009-fall-inservice02

Yellowstone Trip 09

Yellowstone Trip 09

Years pass quickly when you have kids! I have always wanted to take my family to Yellowstone National Park to see yet another part of the world! I have never traveled there, but I have seen pictures and heard from others how “beautiful” it is. I have a good imagination, BUT I never realized such a place existed in the United States! The mountains, the fresh air, the peace that the outdoors bring was exhilerating and so relaxing. Hiking Mt. Washburn, white water rafting at the Flying Pig Rafting Co. , getting up close and personal with bears, elk and moose were highlights. The 6 mile (both ways) hike up Mt. Washburn brought us to the top of the mountains where we could see all of Yellowstone National Park AND the Grand Tetons! Amazing! The trip home brought us through Beartooth Pass….another must see….plan lots of time :) the climb to 10, 969 feet and switchbacks made travel slow….but again beautiful. Check out more pictures at my Flickr page! One more thing I can check off my “bucket list”!
