Are you a coach or do you have a teacher website?  Not sure how to showcase all those photos of your athletes or the daily happenings in your classroom?  Try Animoto!

Latte hours will be offered but feel free to try it out on your own. Educators can receive a free account for 6 months.  With that account you will receive a classroom code that you can share with your students so that they too can have accounts!  For more information, watch the Staff Tracker for Latte Hours, contact Melissa Ochsner in technology or just check it for yourself here:

The nice thing about our content management system is the security that can be set up based on the user and the needs of the site.

If you are a teacher who would like a student helper to work on your site, DO:

  1. Have the student fill out the online request form for access to iAdmin.
    • This ensures that we know who is posting content on our websites.
  2. Monitor the content!
    • Students can be set up to have the same access as you but without publishing rights.  This holds you accountable for the content that is posted.

If you are a teacher who would like a student helper to work on your site, DO NOT:

  1. Provide them with your log in!
    • iSecurity is tied to your network credentials that get you into MANY systems on our network.  If you provide someone else with your information, you risk having critically secure information from being accessed which violates numerous laws!
  2. Log yourself in and allow a student to work under your log in!
    • Teachers are allowed publishing rights and it is your responsibility to monitor the content that is posted by students. If you allow them to work under your log in, you are not monitoring the content prior to publishing.

It is crititcal that staff are aware of the implications of someone other than themselves using their network credentials for any reason, not just for maintaining your website.  If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the technology department at 323-4040.

I will be offering another two (2) day for graduate credit course through NDSU on starting a website on the Bismarck Public Schools content management system.  There are two opportunities during the summer to attend this class; July 7-8 and again July 22-23. Staff must register in the Staff Tracker

This course will use our online web application to communicate the educators’ curriculum, course and/or classroom content on the web.  Participants will reflect upon their current classroom content to develop an outline of their web site structure/navigation based on the needs of their primary audience and ease of usability for the visitors of their site.  Participants will explore the iAdmin application to learn terminology and usage and how their content is presented within the template online. While taking this course, participants will use iAdmin to create their web site as an extension of what they are already doing in their classrooms or how they support the staff, students and/or parents of their school/building/department. Finally, there will be discussion on the additional opportunities the application offers once staff become knowledgeable independent users of the application. Follow-up appointments/communication will be available through Latte Hours to provide continued support throughout the school year.

In addition, anyone who is currently maintaining websites with iAdmin is encouraged to attend a summer Latte Day on “What’s New in iAdmin” offered twice in the Technology Conference Room from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on either July 15th or August 4th (do not take both).  Each session will qualify as three latte hours toward the 10 individual for graduate credit.

This latte day will give participants the opportunity to reflect upon their current websites and/or classroom website and content based on the needs of their primary audience and ease of usability for the visitors of their site.  Participants will explore the iAdmin application to learn what has been updated since their initial training. While taking this course, participants will use iAdmin to audit their web site as an extension of what they are already doing in their classrooms or how they support the staff, students and/or parents of their school/building/department. Finally, there will be discussion on the additional opportunities the application offers. Staff must register in the Staff Tracker.  Follow-up appointments/communication will be available through after school Latte Hours to provide continued support throughout the school year. *Note: This is only available to anyone currently maintaining a website or took the FSDD/Graduate credit course last summer.

Everyone is REQUIRED to bring their LAPTOP! If you are responsible for maintaining a Web page and do not have a laptop, please notify the facilitator to ensure a check out machine can be assigned to you for the day.

If you do not have access to maintain a website and would like to set up individual training time, fill out the online website form or consider attending the two day for graduate credit options this summer.

Anyone who has previously been trained on maintaining websites with iAdmin is encouraged to attend the Latte Hours offered every month in the Technology Conference Room after school from 3:30-4:30.

If you do not have access to maintain a website and would like to set up individual training time, fill out the online website form. *Note: There will not be time to do this during the Latte Hour.

Latte Hours are an informal opportunity for staff to meet with Technology and other staff.  Staff must register in the Staff Tracker. The Web Pages session can be use to get refresher help on maintaining your Web sites and/or share what others are doing with your sites or just to take an hour to sit an update your site without the distractions.

Everyone is REQUIRED to bring their LAPTOP! If you are responsible for maintaining a Web page and do not have a laptop, please notify the facilitator to ensure a check out machine can be assigned to you for the session.

Lattes, Italian sodas, hot chocolate and hot apple cider are available for $2. Pre-orders will be taken when a reminder email to the participants who have enrolled in the Staff Tracker is sent out the morning of the session.

Watch the Staff Tracker for dates/times for the 2009-2010 school year.

*Note: If you are unable to attend latte hours after school and would be interested in sessions offered before school, please contact me @ melissa_ochsner@bismarckschools.org
